Run Blue Events

Run Blue is a global initiative designed to bring attention to the global water crisis by engaging individuals, communities, and organisations through a series of events, encouraging participants worldwide to actively reflect on the importance of water in everyday life, from the resources we consume to the products we use.

These events are designed to be accessible, virtual and free, allowing anyone in the world to participate. Central to this movement are our Country Captains, local leaders who rally their communities, organise events, secure media coverage and inspire participation. This diverse group play a pivotal role in uniting people of all backgrounds in the mission to increase water awareness.

Together, Run Blue has built the biggest grassroots movements for water in history, bringing together people and organisations from over 200 countries and territories to protect our most precious resource — water.

For our final event of the year, we supported Global Handwashing Day with a six-day run/walk. The goal was simple: for every kilometer pledged, a bar of soap is donated to a community in need. In 2022, we partnered with Eco Soap Bank to donate soaps to refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Together, we pledged 425,665 km, resulting in 425,665 bars of soap for donation.

We honoured our Plastic Free July with a four day walk/run event. A significant amount of plastic ends up in our oceans, with rivers being the main way that plastic finds its way to the sea. When we clean our rivers, we clean our oceans. The #ZeroWasteRun went beyond awareness and emphasised tangible, collective action through Run Blue’s campaign mechanic – running and walking for water. Plogging (picking up trash while running) was introduced in order to emphasise the need for real action to solve the global water crisis. The Zero Waste Run highlighted how the zero waste movement can help combat climate change, water wastage and pollution.
